Sustainable Hastings is greening-up the "Thing" this year, and it will be replete with every facet of Hastings' civic life. On the green front, folks will be tabling from The Lenoir Preserve, Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct, Groundwork Yonkers, God of Insects, Hillside Nature Guides, NYSERDA and NYPA, and some others not yet confirmed. Plus, Sustainable Hastings will be constructing an educational installation on Warburton and will provide environmentally-themed games and activities for kids in the Chase parking lot.

Tour of the Peekskill Incinerator
(Run by Wheelabrator Technologies)
Peekskill, Carpooling from Hastings

All our refuse that is not recycled nor composted is trucked to Peekskill and incinerated. The ash is dumped not far away in Cortlandt Manor. The energy produced by our garbage is converted into electricity. Come see how it all happens!
